Adding Interest with Textiles

Textiles are something I've started leaning into more over the last several years. Vintage rugs were the entry point into my fascination and if you lean "core neutral" like myself, I've learned that rooms can fall flat without the interest, color and texture that textiles bring to the moment. I also think that textiles can be the starting point to selecting the color story of a space rather than selecting paint and other elements beforehand. While there are so many ways to add interest to a room, here are 3 ways I'm doing it with textiles in my home and in the shop...

1. Pillows. No sofa, bed or accent chair is complete without these finishing touches. Mixing and matching old with with new adds something quite special and I've collected the perfect small selection of vintage Turkish Kilim pillows in various sizes and palettes to suit many styles and "finishing touch" needs...

2. Upholstered stools and benches. These types of pieces are a staple in my home and in my shop. They're the perfect accent for just about anywhere you need to set something, kick up your feet or to add interest by creating a vignette. This Queen Anne style bench is exactly the kind of piece I'm talking about and its luxurious Thibaut Tigris Velvet brown fabric takes it over the top...

3. Rugs. This last one might be the *most* obvious, but yes, rugs. As a long-time neutral lover, I've found that rooms can fall flat without the integration of color, and I've found the palette is best built from the ground up. Pictured here is quite possibly one of my favorite recent personal acquisition pieces, an antique beauty with the most perfect wear. I initially purchased to hang on a wall (another great way to use rugs), but when I saw how the color palette could play with other elements in my formal living room, I knew it had to live (and be layered) right here...

What other ways do you play with textiles in your home? I'd love to hear from you in the comments. And if you're looking to collect your next vintage or antique piece (or add interesting textiles) to your home, I welcome you to explore my curated edit.
